President Trump Responds to Awake Illinois’ “Back the Blue” Petition

As National Police Week (May 11–17) kicks off, Awake Illinois is proud to announce that President Donald J. Trump has personally responded to our advocacy efforts supporting America’s law enforcement officers.

On March 30, 2026, the White House delivered a direct reply to Chief Tom Weitzel (Ret.), Awake Illinois Law Enforcement Fellow, acknowledging our petition urging the President to “Back the Blue” and restore respect for those who protect our communities.

In his powerful letter dated March 3, 2026, Chief Weitzel highlighted the growing challenges facing police officers across the nation — from political retaliation and reduced funding to rising crime and eroded public support.

He called on President Trump to champion policies that:

• Restore funding and authority to law enforcement

• End the demonization of police officers

• Prioritize public safety and equal justice under the law

• Combat the radical policies that have endangered both officers and citizens

  
  

Chief Weitzel’s message was clear: America needs strong, unapologetic leadership that stands with the men and women in blue.

The White House response dated March 30, 2026 reaffirms President Trump’s unwavering commitment to law and order.

“Under the Trump Administration, the era of government weaponization is over — and a new era of justice, integrity, and honor is upon us. One of my most critical duties is to restore the sacred principle of equal justice under the law for every citizen… I will never stop working to fully restore law and order in Washington, D.C., and beyond.” -President Trump

This response is more than a polite acknowledgment — it is a clear signal that the Trump Administration is listening to grassroots voices like Awake Illinois and is prepared to take decisive action to support our police.

In Illinois, we’ve witnessed the devastating impact of “defund the police” rhetoric, cashless bail, and soft-on-crime policies like the SafeT Act all pushed by progressive leaders in Chicago and Springfield.

Families are less safe, officers are demoralized, and criminals are emboldened. President Trump’s response gives hope that federal leadership will once again prioritize public safety over politics and stand as a counterweight to the failed experiments in sanctuary cities and progressive prosecutors.
