When we first posted Tuesday's podcast with the call of action, committee hearings had not be cancelled yet. More than 2,000 witness slips were submitted opposing HB3355 however the hearing is rescheduled for Feb. 24, 2026 and now everyone has to RESUBMIT SLIPS. This is HELLinois for you! (Anti-Police Bill) – The so-called "Prohibited Hiring of Federal Immigration Officers Act," introduced by Sen. Laura Fine (D-Glenview) on January 13, 2026. This bill would ban the hiring of qualified former federal immigration officers (like experienced ICE agents) from January 20, 2025, to January 20, 2029. In a time of severe staffing shortages across police departments in cities, suburbs, and rural counties alike, blocking these skilled professionals makes no sense and puts our communities at greater risk. Awake Illinois is leading a powerful statewide grassroots lobbying campaign to defeat it and support our officers.
HB3355 (mailed ballots) and HB4606 (government home visits, newborns)
– We're urging Illinoisans to submit witness slips in opposition to these bills as well (specific details on their impacts are highlighted on the page).
