Naperville, IL – Awake Illinois, a leading grassroots advocacy organization defending parental rights, public safety, and the rule of law, welcomes the federal court ruling that permits the Trump Administration to share basic personal information from Medicaid records with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to aid in locating individuals unlawfully present in the United States.
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria's decision lifts restrictions on sharing limited data—such as address, phone number, date of birth, citizenship/immigration status, and Medicaid ID—for those illegally in the country, while protecting sensitive medical information and data on lawful residents. This measured ruling upholds federal authority to enforce immigration laws and supports President Trump's commitment to securing our borders and prioritizing American citizens.

"Illinois taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize benefits for illegal immigrants while federal enforcement is blocked," said Shannon Adcock, Founder and President of Awake Illinois. "This ruling is a commonsense victory for the rule of law, ensuring that basic location data can help ICE remove individuals who have no legal right to be here. Radical sanctuary policies in states like Illinois and California have gone too far in shielding unlawful activity at the expense of public safety and fiscal responsibility.”
Awake Illinois has consistently advocated for policies that protect American families first, including ending the misuse of taxpayer-funded programs to incentivize illegal immigration. Attempts by Democratic attorneys general to block this data sharing only prolong chaos at the border and burden hardworking citizens.
We commend the Trump Administration for pursuing lawful tools to restore order and call on Illinois leaders to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement rather than obstruct it.
Awake Illinois remains committed to uncancellable advocacy for families, transparency, and the rule of law across our state.
