Today, Awake Illinois, representing more than 100,000 grassroots members across Illinois, together with MAHA Moms, Dads, and allied organizations nationwide, delivered a formal letter to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The letter reaffirms our organization’s early and vocal endorsement of Secretary Kennedy’s appointment while delivering a clear and resolute message: We will not return to fear-driven public health policies that undermine parental rights, bodily autonomy, and medical freedom.
In recent weeks, familiar patterns have emerged — calls for unverified “outbreaks,” quarantines ("hantavirus"), masking mandates, and reflexive vaccine campaigns. Awake Illinois and our coalition stand united in opposition to these coercive measures.
We endorsed Secretary Kennedy for HHS because of his decades-long commitment to scientific transparency, root-cause investigation, and protecting families from bureaucratic overreach. Our letter urges him to stay true to those principles and lead with the courage that earned our support.
“Awake Illinois proudly endorsed Secretary Kennedy’s nomination because of his long-standing dedication to scientific integrity and medical freedom,” said Shannon Adcock, Founder of Awake Illinois. “Parents across the country are counting on him to resist fear-driven policies that have eroded parental rights and public trust. We urge him to continue prioritizing prevention, transparency, and real solutions over outdated top-down mandates.”
The coalition letter specifically requests that Secretary Kennedy:
Publicly oppose fear-based overreach, quarantine measures, and unverified emergency declarations.
Require full transparency and independent verification of any public health claims, moving beyond scripted CDC narratives.
Protect parental rights and bodily autonomy as non-negotiable — especially for students in PreK-12 schools, colleges, and universities.
Continue exposing the true drivers of America’s chronic disease epidemic: environmental toxins, ultra-processed foods, and pharmaceutical over-reliance.
As the letter states: “As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, we ask Secretary Kennedy to help ensure this milestone reflects liberty, resilience, and genuine health — not renewed cycles of control and compliance.”
Awake Illinois and our national MAHA partners helped build this movement. We remain ready to support Secretary Kennedy as a strong ally in restoring health freedom — but we will also hold the line and make our voices heard if the promises of MAHA are compromised.
Parents and families across Illinois and the nation are watching. We will continue gathering peacefully, exercising our rights, and teaching our children resilience instead of fear.
